Identity document: why it’s required and how to add it

Learn why an ID document is required to request services, what types are accepted, and where to enter or update it in your account.

Do I need an ID to book a consultation?

Yes. To book any consultation on Oladoctor, you must provide a valid ID document. This is required so the doctor can issue a prescription, referral, or medical certificate — if needed — in compliance with medical regulations in your country of residence.

Consultations cannot be booked without a valid ID. If the field is not completed, the booking will not proceed.

What documents are accepted?

You can use:

  • International (foreign) passport

  • National ID card from any EU country

  • Residence permit (including NIE with residence rights in Spain)

What if I don’t have a local healthcare identifier?

If you don’t have a national identifier like a número de utente (Portugal), you can still receive a prescription after the consultation. However, you may not be eligible for public health insurance discounts at the pharmacy.

This does not affect the doctor’s ability to assess your case or issue a document — it only affects reimbursement.

Where do I enter or update my ID?

You’ll be asked to enter your ID document the first time you book a service or log into your Oladoctor account. A notification will appear — click it to go to your Profile.

There, you’ll find the ID fields under: Profile → Additional Information → Document type and Document number

You can update or correct these details anytime through the same section in your account. Make sure your information matches your actual ID, especially if a prescription, referral, or certificate may be needed after your consultation.

Why is this important?

Without a valid ID, the doctor will not be able to issue a prescription, referral, or certificate — even if it’s medically justified.

Make sure your ID is entered correctly and up to date before booking.
